What is Counselling?

There can be times where things feel challenging in our lives and these can create emotions in us that leave us feeling drained, stuck and unsure where to turn.

Counselling provides a safe and confidential space to explore and unpick some of these emotions in more depth. This allows us to understand them and look at them in different ways and help us to move forward in a positive way.

A counsellor cannot give you the answers or tell you what you should do. Instead, the counsellor is there to provide a deep level of empathy and be there in the moment with you whilst you explore some of the issues that have been troubling you. Having a strong therapeutic relationship is important for you to feel safe in sharing how you feel.

People have come to me for counselling to explore a number of issues including:

anxiety
bereavement and other losses
blushing
depression
family issues
identity
lack of confidence
life changes
low self-esteem
panic attacks
post-natal depression
relationship difficulties
sleeping problems
stress, trauma
work issues

Counselling can be short term or long term, depending on what you want to focus on and what you hope to get out of it.
